It’s a wrap for the first ever EFPT Fuerteventura, staged at Matas Bay Watersports center. Since at least another six hours of good conditions were required to start another single and double and with the wind not improving until the early afternoon, the event has been called off for the pro fleet around 2.00 pm. The juniors were still kept on stand-by through the remaining day, to give them the chance for another single and double in case the wind would get better.
Despite no suitable conditions for sailing, we’ve seen some outstanding action today. With the first ever professional livestream being launched at this event, a tow-in supersession with some of the best riders in this discipline was on the schedule. Mattia Fabrizi (Patrik), Tonky Frans (RRD/RRD), Antoine Albert (Goya/Goya) and Yentel Caers (JP) were the four chosen riders put on a show, to entertain the spectators and to give the livestream team, around producer Adam Sims, the chance to test their system. The moves the riders were going in at full speed, here on the perfectly flat water of Matas Bay, were unreal. The freestylers pushed each other up to a level that hasn’t been seen in this discipline ever before. Mattia Fabrizi and Antoine Albert landed perfect air skopus, Tonky Frans, whose motivation seems to be second to none, went for big double air culos, double funnells and a perfect air funnell into no handed burner in one of his last runs. The riders were holding their breaths when Yentel Caers was charging full speed into an air funnell into double burner and a massive air bob into culo, moves that have never been seen in this discipline before.

At 04.00 pm race director Tom Hartmann called the competition officially off. The results therefor stay the same for the pro and the junior categories. Looking at the overall ranking, there haven’t been much changes in the top positions, apart from Loick Spicher (RRD/RRD), who showed some excellent sailing in the past couple events, climbing up one rank to now sit in the third place overall. Leading the ranking is still Tonky Frans in front of Giovanni Passani, who is at the heels of the Bonairean sailor, by a difference of 25 points only!

We are looking back on a phantastic event, that has been superwell organised. Davide Zilli, head of organisation, is an EFPT crew member and passionate windsurfer himself and proved that he knows excately what it takes to put on an EFPT stage. Furthermore, Adam Sims and his team as well as every volunteer who helped out with the live-stream at this event, deserves a mention here: you guys were doing an amazing job and add a huge value to the tour. The race for the European Freestyle Pro Tour title 2018 remains an exciting one, with the next EFPT stop happening just in four days from now. The outlook for the EFPT Lanzarote looks amazing, with a forecast of strong wind and waves. 30 riders are registered to compete for the € 10.000 prize-money that are up for grabs at the 5th EFPT event of the season!
