Finished at the Festa! - FPT x JWA Zushi Beach Event Summary

The Japanese Windsurfing Association (JWA) x Freestyle Pro Tour (FPT) Freestyle Festa event came to a close last weekend (19.04 – 20.04) at Zushi Beach with the crowning of champions in a multitude of competitions spanning across two days.

This event served as a season opener for the 2025 JWA Freestyle calendar, with 4 more local events to follow throughout the duration of the year, and set the scene for some upcoming intense and very high-level freestyle action in the Japanese local scene.

Despite Day 1 not quite delivering in terms of conditions, a low-wind non-planing Flowstyle competition took place across multiple categories. On top of that, a Tow-in competition/show took place, with Takuma Sugi emerging victorious after stomping a Double Air Funnel, followed closely by Akito Konishi who stuck a Double Air Funnel of his own, with Takumi Moriya rounding out the podium after landing the ever so technical tow-in Skopu.

Day 2 cranked up the heat, with the wind kicking in and the Freestyle competition being held. Throughout the day some of the most talented local riders showed why Japan is claimed to have one of the strongest local scenes in modern-day freestyle windsurfing. The top performers of the day were youngster Takumi Moriya who ended up taking first place in the competition, joined on the podium by Takuma Sugi and Kango Itekeru (JP/Neilpryde).

The event provided some intense competition and an incredible showing for the crowds. Whether through a showcase of the sport at the highest level by some of the top riders in the world, giving opportunities to many younger and more inexperienced local freestylers, or simply bringing freestyle windsurfing to the masses, the 2025 edition of the Freestyle Festa in Zushi Beach was one thing above all: a huge celebration of the local Freestyle scene in Japan.

Final Event Results

🥈JPN 7 – TAKUMA SUGI
🥉J812 – KANGO IKETERU

The FPT returns to Japan later this year for another collaborative event with the JWA – the finale of the Japanese freestyle tour on Lake Hanama, with competition running between the 3rd and 5th of December.

The tour now departs the shores of Zushi Beach, Japan and heads to Europe for the summer season, making a stop the Baltic Sea for a collaborative event with the German Freestyle Battles on the island of Fehmarn (Running from May 29th to June 1st), before all sights will be set on the next official FPT tour stop – Porto Pollo, Sardinia.
