Milos Beach Lefkada Freestyle Open

After a three-years break the European Freestyle Pro Tour will return to the beautiful shores of Lefkada, Greece. Christos Stratos who has been organising the event already several times was keen to make the best European freestyle windsurfers return to his surf center at Milos Beach. We met Christos to find out about his motivation to organise the event again, what he is looking forward to and where he wants to take it in the future.

EFPT: How many times did you organise an EFPT event?

Christos: I organised the event five times already with the first time in 2007. It then got an annual thing and took place every year until 2011.

EFPT: What were your highlights in all the years?

Christos: Once in 2009 we had really nice waves during the competition period! It’s not something that happens every day and you could see some great action!

EFPT: What are you looking forwards to the most?

Christos: I hope to see a lot of top riders back at Milos Beach and I want to bring the EFPT back to Lefkada every year from now on. 2015 should be the restart and I want to grow it bigger year by year.

EFPT: What can the riders expect at your event?

Christos: I want to make the event really social – all the riders should live close together and around the center. I would like to support the freestyle windsurfing community with free accommodation at the spot and while the competition is on. Furthermore there will be a nice opening and closing ceremony with a community dinner and party night as well as some social evenings during the event period. If there is not enough wind there will be a possibility for tow-in and to try out the hover-board. I bought it recently and it’s great fun to fly above the water!

EFPT: What makes Milos Beach a perfect location for an EFPT event?

Christos: It’s easy: the infrastructure is good and the spot is close to town. There is accommodation right at the spot so everything is very centered. It’s a very original location and mainly known by windsurfers and kitesurfers. Also the people who do the event – we are all surfers. So it’s an event from surfers for surfers and we all love what we are doing!
